HEARING LOSS
If you worked at a shipyard or other maritime location, it is possible
that you have a JOB-RELATED HEARING LOSS.
You may have legal rights associated with any hearing loss that you
may have sustained, which includes direct compensation benefits to you
in addition to medical treatment and appliances, such as hearing aides.
I have arranged for testing to determine the extent of any hearing loss
which you may have suffered as a result of industrial noise exposure.
The cost of an audiogram and report is $78.00. Appointments will be scheduled
for you at the University of South Alabama Department of Speech and Hearing
in Mobile, Alabama.
Once you receive a copy of your audiogram, written notice of your injury
must be given to the responsible Employer within 30 days. Additionally,
you have one year from the date you receive a written copy of your audiogram
within which to file a written claim with the United States Department
of Labor, or your entitlement to compensation may be barred by the statute
of limitations.
If you have not yet settled any hearing loss claim or, if you continued
to work at a shipyard since settling any hearing loss claim, please contact
me if you are interested in discussing your rights and remedies under
the Longshore Act.
